Exercise isn’t enough - Why your dog needs mental stimulation too

Most dog owners know that dogs need exercise, but many don’t realise how important mental stimulation is too. Blah Blah explain why

Itt’s easy to think of dogs just as our furry companions, but many breeds were originally bred to work. intelligent and capable animals. Many of the breeds we know and love today were originally bred to perform specific jobs eg border collies for herding sheep, labs retrieving game, beagles followins scents etc. Although most dogs now live as family companions, those natural instints and desire to use their brain haven’t disappeared. which is why exercise alone isn’t enough.

Just like us, dogs need a balance of physical exercise and mental stimulation to thrive. A walk around the block is great, but it isn’t really enough. Giving them off leash freedom, achance to sniff explore and learn new skills often results in a happier, calmer dog.

The importance oh physical exercise. Helps keep a dog fit and healthy - this is directly related to how much effort the dogs owner puts in. supports joint and muscle health, gives them an outlet for their energy, can improve behaviour when balanced appropriately - example of leaving dog home alone for a few hours and they’ve displayed destructive behaviour. Wonder why?

The importance of mental stimulation. Exploring, sniffing, learning new skills, training, discovering new environments calmly, building confidence.

-What happens when a dog doesn’t get enough of either? boredom, excessive barking, chewing, digging, pulling on lead, difficulty settling

How Adventure Hounds combines both. Adventure walks in nature, structured socialisation, recall practice, loose lead walking, calm behvaiour around other dogs, sniffing and exploration.

Conc: A dog doesn’t need to come home physically tired, they need to be physically stimulated too. need the opportunity to learn just as much as to run around.
